Gtechna Goes International: Wilson, Australia

Wilson has evaluated the market leaders in electronic ticket issuance and management, selecting gtechna for its flexibility and experience with large organizations such as Washington D.C., Seattle, and VinciPark.

Overview

Wilson Parking is a very large operator with facilities across Australia, New Zealand, and multiple countries in Asia. Wilson owns hundreds of parking lots and processes thousands of parking tickets every month. To consolidate their parking operations from ticketing, to the appeal process and court hearings, requires a flexible system. It must be capable of dealing with hierarchical organizations, multiple payment engines, such as pay-by-phone and by kiosk, over multiple time zones with a centralized server. Wilson has evaluated the market leaders in electronic ticket issuance and management, selecting gtechna for its flexibility and experience with large organizations such as Washington D.C., Seattle, and VinciPark.

To minimize this, gtechna will always perform a final check to the various payment providers before printing the ticket.

Problem

In today’s world, operators often need to deal with multiple payment engines such as pay stations and pay-by-phone providers. One major issue is to have the payment information made available to the parking operator, to avoid giving an erroneous parking ticket. Some latencies can occur between the servers and the central Command Center hub. The main source of this latency can typically be attributed to the communication between pay stations and its servers. To save battery life and energy, pay stations enter into a sleep mode when not in use. By the time it wakes up, connects to the server and pushes the transactions, several minutes can elapse. Combined, these latencies lead to erroneous tickets which result in customer dissatisfaction. To minimize this, gtechna will always perform a final check to the various payment providers before printing the ticket.

Dealing With Time Zones

To cope with the multiple time zones and the coverage of both Australia and New Zealand, gtechna has mapped multiple organizations by zone. The concept of a zone or super zone is different than the standard zone used by the payment provider to divide a city; super zones are based more on regions. Using this concept, supervisors of a group of regions can review the appeals and manage them independently from other regions. As well, at the top of the pyramid, a general manager can view all the tickets from Australia and/or New Zealand.
